Feilding Borough Council

An ordinary meeting of $he Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last. . Present — The Mayor, and Ore Gichard, Fowles, Carthew, Goodbehere, Nicholas, Worsfold, Thompson and Biehardson. The minutes of the previous ordinary, adjourned, and speciaL/meetings were read and confirmed. Messrs Prior and Sandilands, with advice on diversion of a stream, and grazing cattle on streets, &c. A report of the Public Works Committee was read, stating that plans and specifications were prepared foi Marlborough street to their approval. A report was read from the Inspector of Nuisances and Banger. The report was satisfactory, excepting an alleged opposition in the discharge of his duties in both capacities by Mr Arnott. The Inspector applied for permission to take legal proceedings against Mr Arnott. The letter from Mr Knox was - referred to the Public Works Committee, with power to act. With reference to Mr Willis* offer to supply the Freethought Review/ Cr Thompson moved, and Cr Bichardson seconded, That Mr Willis' offer be declined with thanks.— Carried. The request of Dr Johnston for permission to burn his bush was granted, the Council undertaking no responsibility in the matter. w' Resolved, That the amount of £33 18s due to Mr Blackmorc inmost* and action against the Borough be paid forthwith. A discussion took place on the subject of the Banger and Inspector of Nuisance's report, and his request to take proceedings against Mr Arnott. Reference was made to the bye-laws, and an opinion from Messrs Prior and Sandilands was read, after which it was agreed that the Mayor should make the Ranger's complaint a test case by proceedings being taken against Mr Arnott. : • " After a discussion the following resolution, proposed by Or Thompson, and seconded by Or Nicholas^ 'was carried : — That a committee of' this Council, consisting of the Chairman of the Public Works Committee and? another member of the same, viz., Cr Richardson, see Mr Blackmore and report as to what arrangement can ; be come to with him for the removal of the property of the Council, vis./ the wreck of Warwick street bridge. ■ ' Resolved, That the Mayor be elected a member of the Finance Committee.
