Manchester Horticultural Society

A meeting of the general committee off the society was bald at Mr Bray's office last evening, Mr H. Worsfold in the chair and nearlj every member of the committee being present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. ■ % The Secretary, Mr E. Goodbehere, said he had not been able to prepare a balance sheet, as some of the items of income were not yet in, but the receipt* and expenditure so far showed a deficit of from £6 to £7. The amount taken at the doors at the late show had been £15 6s 9d. A conversation was held on the matter of the pilfering of certain exhibits by larrikins at the late show, and it was agreed that something should be decided upon at another meeting to prevent s recurrence of similar proceedings at the? next show. - A number of the comtnitteemen paid in their subscriptions and proceeds ot the ■sale of tickets, and tho.se who had been awarded prizes received the respective amounts. One or two members spoke rather strongly with reference to certain remarks in a recent sub-leader in the Fiiuhko Stab, anent the treatment of certain persons by some of the committee at the late show and expressed their opinion that the Stab, which had hitherto upheld the Society had now turned round and was trying to do it injury. Others spoke to the effect that it was no part of their duty to discuss what newspapers said, and that the best way was to take no notice, but vroceed with the business. It was resolved on the motion ot Mr Towler, seconded by Mr Banger, That a hearty vote of thanks be presented to Mr Dnw the master of the Feilding Brass Band, together with the members thereof for their valuable and much appreciated services at the late show. It was resolved that Messrs Hunt and Eitney (if not exhitors) b« invited to be judges at the autumn show, the fee to be> 1 guinea each, Mr F, Y. Lethbridge b# referee. Besolved, That the next meeting of the committee be held on Friday the 6th of February. A vote of thanks was accorded to the Secretary for his efficient services in connection with the late show, after which the committee adjourned.
