Hans Christopher, who arrived in the colony 41 years ago, and was present at the burning of Kororareka, died yesternight. ! Lady Whitaker, Sir F. Whitaker's wife, died last night. Wellington. This Day. An extraordinary Gazette, issued this evening, announces the resignation of the Atkinson Ministry, and the appointment of the Stout Ministry. At the meeting of the Lambton Licensing Committee several applicants for extension of hours, who were only granted 10 o'clock licenses at the last sitting of the committee, had the hours extended to midnight. Dixnedin, This Day. It is seated that at Pukerau, in the Mataura electorate, to-night the effigy of Mr Richardson, M.H.R., willl be smothered in mud. In Dunedin East it is proposed by Mr Stout's supporters to call a public meeting to strengthen Mr Stout's hands in the present crisis.
