The Borough Elections
The nominations of candidates to fill the vacancies made by the three retiring Councillors, Messrs Higgin, Rutherford, and J. C. Thompson, took place at noon to-day, when the names of the following gentlemen were handed in to the Town Clerk :— Peter Thomson, W. P. Nicholas, J. C. Thompson, Charles Roe, E. B. Gichard, and Win. Arnott. A poll will take place on Thursday, the 11th instant. As there are considerable interests inTolred wnich will require special tact and ability on the part of Councillors during the next three years, it is hoped that the, various candidates will take an early, opportunity of explaining to, their fellow burgesses what their views and opinions are. on the -present state, of .Borough aifeain't and their intentions fir the future. Among, so many candidates it is only reasonable to expect strongly divergent opinions, and the ratepayers have a right to hear what they are before they are expected to vote for any of them to fill the honorable position of Borough Councillors.
