Rats
Tars glory of the four notorious Auckland rats has "paled its uneffectal fires" before that of the brilliant halo wnich surrounds so many of the Southern rodents. The Auckland men only 44 ratted " from one side, but their southern imitators " ratted and ratted again " with a delirious inconstancy not to be equalled by the most coquetish of women. The constituencies, so badly represented by the said rats, have taken various and Sundrjr means to give expression to their just feelings of anger and contempt. Thompson, the member for Clutha, had his effigy dipped ih sheep wash and afterwards cremated. Wakefibld has been the gratified recipient of a rat-trap and a rat. Mr Rbesx was presented with a rattrap and a ferret. Mr Gbioo, the member for Wahanui, had his effigy torn to pieces and afterwards burned with ignominy. A roasting is being prepared for Mr Gillis, and poor, Vincent Pvkb is to be tried for treason felony.. He will be drowned in a butt of — Dunedin beer— the most, awful fate of any. Yet out of this evil we believe good will come. : Electors an«l . candidates will, in the future have a better understanding. In "soliciting their suffrages" intending members will have to state clearly to the electors whether it is their intention to follow & party leader, to sit on a rail, or to rat when convenient. These points being clearly defined and | settled, the: elector* will hare no difficulty in making their )Choie*.. Many of the rats have indulged in their fancy for change, i» the hopelthat their i«fi| of membership wouM last' fo* tlfe ulual three 'y^r*.
