Heavy Fall of Earth at Auckland

[PEE UNITED PIIEBS ASSOCIATION.]

Auckland, This Day.

An enormous landslip occurred at Euiily Place excavation this evening, as a result of the heavy rain. The men were just leaving, when pieces fell from the cliffs, and they ran for their lives. From 5000 to 10,000 cubic yards fell, burying the drays and killing one horse, the driver of which escaped. The Beach Eoad is blocked for three chains, and traffic stopped. Fortunately none of the numerous busses were passing at the time, or there would have been serious loss of life ; or had the fall of the cliff occurred earlier, few of the working party at the east side could have escaped instantaneous death.

Blenheim, This Day,

A land slip at Onamatutu buried a child named Gales, who was taken out quite dead. An inquest will be held. The mother of the child had a narrow escape, being buried up to her waist.
