Native Affairs

To-day's Chronicle says : — From information nuvived last evening it appears that Mr Thorpe's survey party, now engaged in tho back country, and at present in charge of Mr Pemberton, have beon turned back by the natives. Our informant nt-tes that on Tuesday last seven natives armed with loaded guns, ordered the party to return, and said that if they attempted to proceed they would shoot them. Mr Pemberton left the camp on Wednesday, and may be expected in town to-day, having come as far as Mr Field's yesterday, his assistant coming into town last evening. On Mr Pemberton's arrival we hope to be placed in possesion of fuller particulars relating to the obstructionists and their reason for stopping the progress ot the surveyors. Here is work for the new Native Minister.
