Railway Returns

The following is a statement of the railway traffic returns on the Wanganui section for the four weeks ending March 31st, 1884 :—

This is an increase over the February period of £856 13s Id, and of £534 18s 6d over the corresponding March period of last year. This advance is not necessarily to be attributed to the increased tariff, because the increase of freight carried amounts to 565 tons, principally in merchandise' There is a slight falling off in the timber carnage. This return is very satisfactory.
