Feilding Stats School.
The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was held in the School house last evening. Present — M eßsrs Thompson (chairuirh), Poster (secretary),. Bray, Watts, Worsfold, and Towler. The minutes of the. previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. s■ . . The following correspondence -was also read: — From Mr Macarthur stating there was every probability of the school receiving a grant out of the building fund to be allocated on the last Tuesday' inVthe month for a new school in Feilding, . and offering to assist the committee in the matter. Several letters from the "Board to the following effects, respectively:— £lo to be granted by the Board towards the fencing. A male teacher had been advertised for in accordance with Committee's request. The Board 'had been unable to supply a temporary teacher and recommended the Committee to employ two senior scholars as monitors. Recommendation to the Committee to appoint Mr Marshall as assistant teacher. The following applications for the; post of assistant teacher in the school were opened and read : — - . ' > J. B. Marshall, Sheffield, Canterbury; James Robson, Nelson. . Mr Marshall's application was accompanied with a large number of copies of certificates and high- class testimonials as to his character and genc-ral qualifications as a teacher. Mr Hobson also forwarded a certificate and recomendation from the Inspector o£ the Nelson Education I } o:u-d. The applications of the candidates for teachership were discussed, and it was proposed by Mr Worsfold, seconded by Mr Fosii?r,that the committee recommend the appointment of Mr Marshall from Sheffield, < auterbury, as assistant teacher for the school. — Carried. Mr proposed, and Mr Bray seconded* that the proffered assistance of Mr Macarthur be accepted wilh thanks. — Carried. • The report of the master of the attendance, &c, at the school for the previous 4 weeks was presented, and considering the weather, the attendance had been exceedingly good. The report stated that ija compliance with with the Committees' request to nominate a scholar as a Cadet, he recommended Elizabeth Diamond to that position. ' . It was proposed by Mr^Worsfold, seconded by Mr Towler that im application be made to the Education Board for a new school building, and that a Committee to consist* of M essrs Thompson, Bray, and Foster, be appointed to draft a letter to the Board on the matter. : Resolved that tenders be advertised in the Staii for fencing the -girli' playground, the tenders to be in by noon on Friday next. . ; Resolved that MissjDiamond be recommended by the Committee as a Cadet for the school. r . j liesolved to hold a special meeting on Friday next to receive the report .of the sub Committee for drafting a letter to the Board, and also to receive the. tenders for fencing. ' , ; • Accounts amounting to £1 16s 3d were passed for payment, and this closed the business of the Committee. '
