The Borough Elections.

The interesf. manifested by the Burgesses generally in the nominations yesterday for three Councillors to fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of Councillors Loudon, Fowles and Levers was not very exciting. Only a few of those who hare the welfare of the Borough at heart exerted themselves, and took an active part is the matter. Mwsrg Loudon and Fowles being eligible for reelection were each nominated, the former by Mr Foster, seconded by MrHaybittle, and the latter by. Mr .Sherwill, seconded by Mr Carthew. Mr J. C. Richardson was nominated by Mr J. C. Thompson, seconded by Mr Carthew. A strong effort was made to, secure another candidate, and several prominent citizens were solicited to stand, but without avail. These being the only nominations, thereturning officer, Mr Hill, declared these gentlemen duly elected. We believe the electors could not' have done better than re-elect Messrs Loudon and Fowles. With regard to Mr Hi chard son, , this gentleman is at present comparatively little known beyond 1 his own circle of friends, and although many perhaps would have -enjoyed. thehttle excitement that would have been eauvd by a contest, we have every reason to believo that Mr Kichardson will make a Tory good « 'cnneitlor, and his election will, at least, constitute the representation in the Council of the flourishing suburb of Makino.
