The brigantine Clansman, about the satefy of which fears were entertained, has arrived from Lyttelton. She experienced a succession of gales and had >>er decks swept by enormous seas. She arrived in a battered condition.

A scene occurrred in the Police Court yesterday. A rather notorious woman named Anne Vessev was charged with abusive language. While the principal witness, a woman, was giving her evidence, the prisoner drew a saucer from the folds of her dress, and struck the witness twice violently on the head, covering her with blood. The Court .sentenced the prisoner to two mouths' imprisonment.

The lady's donation of £1000 it now appears is to the Fallen Women's Home, not the Scripture Gift A ssociation.
