Destructive Fire

AUCKLAND, August,
The Te Kopura and Kaipara planing sheds and three million feet of timber were burned during last night. The fire was raging all night. The whole station md large sawmill escaped almost miraculously. The fire is now well under, but the danger is not over. The loss is from £15,000 to £20,<X>0. It transpires that although there was £6,000 insurance en the Tekopuru mill, none of it extends over the property destroyed this mominjj. Later. The fire at the KopurU mill station originated in a stokehole of the little mill at 1 o'clock last night The large sawmills and station were saved through the exertion of the hands. The South British had £250 on the offices and £375 on the stores. The goods in the latter had to bo saved The National had similar amounts, and the New Zealand £800, but accounts to haad leave it in doubt whether the offices and stores are destroyed. The timber in the yards was destroyed. It is said to be wholly uniusurcd. The first statement of loss is declared to be exaggerated.
