Bulls Items.

«• ■ (_r_.o_t otra own co_BKspoNM!irr.) A largely attended meeting of persons interested in the Bulls Horticultural Society took place ou Wednesday evening the 22nd inst. at the Town Hall. Mr C. W. Maclean read the balance sheet, which showed a balance to the good of £13. Mr C. L. Maclean was re-elected president, and Messrs James Bull, and T. 17. McKenzie -were re-elected VicePresident. The position of Hon Secretary and Treasurer was allowed to remain open for a few days, but it is believed that Mr George Aloore will accept those offices. A committee of fifteen were elected as follows: — Messrs Scott, Frood, Abrahams, .Begg, Sopp, Wool-ford,' C. W. Maclean; Richards, Starck, Remington, Munro, Hunt, Jarvis, Flowers, and Maclean. Mr C. W.* Maclean (sec) tendered his resignation, which was reluctantly accepted. A gratuity of £4 4a was voted him as a slight acknowledgement of his very valuable services during the past three years. It was resolved to hold. the Spring Show on or about the 20th JSoy. next. The Local Roard elections are the absorbing topic of conversation. To-day's voting will decide who are, and who are not, fit and proper men to have the control of the financial affairs of our Town Board. It has been decided by one of the candidates that a " white hat is a sure sign of respectability," consequently all the old discarded bell toppers have been resusitated, and the supply is not equal to the demand. There* is now , a glorious opportunity for one of your enterprising citizens to make a fortune by buying up all the old hats (white) in Feilding, and bringing them over here. The continuous boisterous weather has greatly interfered with the shipping at '* the port and consequently a large number of cattle and" sheep are now awaiting shipment. The .Napier is expected on Mondav next. Mr Gould, who has been for some years * Station Master, Postmaster and Tele-: graphist at Halcombe, gave up charge of his various offices to-day. This gentleman will be much missed at Halcombe, where he has ' performed the duties of his position in a manner satisfactory to the public and creditable to himself. We wish Mr Gould every success in his new sphere of life:
