« — — [PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Westpobt, This Day. At Karamea a settler named C. Hapley was drowned in the Mohikinui River one day last week. It is supposed he entered the river to turn back some cattle he was bringing to town and was swept away. Nelson, This Day. The cutter, Planet, which was stranded during the bad weather a few days ago, has been launched and brougnt to Nelson for repairs. DuNEDrN, This Day. Brunton's wool shed and contents at Fortrose was destroyed by fire this morning. The building was built ot wood and iron. The loss is supposed to be partly covered by insurance. The body of Hugh Campbell, who was drowned at Owake on the 25th of last month, was picked up at sea by the Janet Ham say on Sunday. '1 he Fine Arts Exhibition was formally opened this afternoon by His Excellency the Governor. Among those present were the Hons. Mr Whitaker, Mr Dick, Mrßolleston, Mr Oliver, Sir William Fitzherbert, the Mayor of Wellington, Archdeacons Stock and Thorpe, and the Hon. Mr Pharazyn, M .L.C.
