The Recent Fire.
The scene at the ruins of the Makino Sash and Door Factory destroyed by fire on Friday last is a very desolate one, and there has been nothing like it in the district since • the destruction of \Tr Loudon's and other property in. Feildinge ilding some two and a half years ago. The remains of costly tools and implements of the trade, as well as pieces of the machinery, lie about in all directions, the whole of which are rendered utterly useless by the action of the fire. Mr Potts estimates that the hand-tools alone which he has lost could not be replaced under £50. A case of glass, which he had got in only a. few days before the fire, at a cost of £25, is now only a mass of clinker. The stock included a large number of finished sashes and doors, as well as a great quantity of well seasoned and prepared pieces of timber, the whole representing the work of many months past. As already reported, Mr Potts is a total loser by the fire, as the terms of his lease required his endorsement pf the policy covering the stock in favor of the lessors as security for. certain claims.
