James Mullet, who confessed to complicity in the Phoenix Park murders, has been tried for attempting to assassinate Juryman Field in November last. The jury found a verdict ot guilty, and the prisoner was sentenced to penal servitude for life. In the House of Commons last night one clause in the Land Revenue Bill which was under consideration was rejected. This decision of the House is considered tantamount to a defeat of Government. The dynamite conspirators, who were arrested in London and Birmingham last month, were agaiii brought up at Bow-st. Police Court to-day and further remanded. At an influential meeting of shipowners held in London, to-day a committee was appointed to take steps to promote the construction of a second canal through tho Isthmus of Suez. General Grant urges foreigners not to abuse the protection of the American flag. Admiral Mentir has been instructed to prevent Chinese troops entering Tonquin. An attack by the local forces of Annam-<>n O Honoi has been severely repulsed. The French Government has determined to iusist on a French Protectorate of Annam.
