FESTIVAL AT ASHURST.

[Communicated.] The Messrs Whibly Bros., of Ashurst, entertained a number of their friends last Thursday, and those who were employed by them at hop-picking, to a supper and dance after their successful Ik p harvest. The guests, with the children, numbered about 95. Amongst the former we noticed Mr and Mrs Cotter, Mr and Mrs Andrew, Mr Garlick, Misses JTaclißons, the Messrs Jacksons, and other newly settled farmers in the district. The large storing room attached to the hop kiln was most tastefully decorated with nikau palm and fern tree, and some one lad shown great taste in the decorations »nd floral ornaments. On the supper table, which fairly groaned (if we may make use of the old saying) beneath tbe weight of the goad cheer, full and plenty seemed the order of the evening. Tbe children, numbering about 40. were regaled in the house to a substantial tea and all manner of good things, and after tea they were amused with views from a magic lantern, &c, the other guests passing the time very agreeably with music »nd songs by Messrs E. and A. Whibly, ■and with dancing, which was kept up till after 12 o'clock. We hope that the same saccesi that has hitherto attended their efforts in hop rearing may continue to attend them and that they may have many such harvest homes.
