CRICKET.

MANCHESTER V. HALCOMBE. • T The above match was played on Saturday last on the ground of the litfcetf, and, in spite of frequent light showers of rain, a very pleasant day was spent. : Manchester only mustered 8 men during the first innings, which circumstance is greatly to be regrettfd, as it does not speak well for the interest in cricket shown by somo of the members. The visitors, under Captain Nix, were, the first to handle the willow and succeeded in patting together 79 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Fearon showed capital hitting power inp utting together his 17, while Rowley played well for his 18. At the end of the innings an adjournment was made for luncheon, at the conclusion of which the two Bartholomews made their appearance.. The Halcombe captain (Tompkins) generously' offered to allow them to go to the wipkets, but this was felt by Nix to be in opposition to all rules, and to be too great a. trespass on the goodnature of the enemy. The Halcombe men then ran up a score of 99, Parkes getting his 32 in ,a» remark* ably free style. In their second innings the Manchester team were not so fortunate, making only 73 for 9 wickets; This left Halcombe 54 to win, which they managed to get for the loss of 3 wickets. The ground was very hard and uneven although the wicket itself was fair, and this may account for the large number of extras. The Manchester team showed a great want of practice, and to this, in & large measure, must be attributed their defeat. The following are the full scores: —
