AUSTRALIA V. ENGLAND.
The international cricket match was commenced at Sydney on Saturday last. £ The* weather was a little showery on~ Saturday, and play was stopped once in consequence of the rain. On Monday the excitement was intense and many thousands of persons were on the ground. The first innings of the Englishmen waa concluded on Monday, for a total of 263. The Australians then went to the wickets and their first innings closed Sesterday, when they had scored 262—1 ehind the Englishmen's total. The Hon Ivo Bligh's team then commenced, their second innings, and by a telegram received yesterday afternoon/ we learn that they had put together 43 runs without the loss of a wioket. [Since the above was in type we hare received the following information:— The Englishmen continued their second innings which closed for a total qf 179. The weather was showery. . Tremendous excitement prevailed. The Australians now only require to score 199't0 win.] -■•..-.:■
