CORRESPONDENCE.

THE GOOD TEMPLARS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE FEILDrNG STAB. Sib, — As a friend of temperance I was somewhat surprised at the remarks of your " local " writer, on the circular sent by the committee of the temperance bodies to the local publicans. Being very jealous of our character for courtesy, forbearance, and fair play, I request," on behalf of the temperance people of Feilding, that you publish in » your next issue that " 6hjectidhable"-and " offensive" circular, for the purpose of letting the public decide as to its character. We claim this, quite assured of 'the verdict of all right-thinking people. Although never having seen the circular, I feel persuaded that the gentleman who wrote it would not commit himself in the way insinuated. We suspect it Was not altogether charity ou the part of our opponents that prevented the publication of this transgression of the temperance committee. Please set the matter at rest by doing so in your next. We appeal to tbe "Caesar" of public opinion.— l' am, &c, Ivon. Tho subjoined is a copy of the letter sent to the publicans of Feilding:— " Feilding, 5-2-83. "Sir. — Take notice that a vigilance committee has been formed by the temperance bodies of Feilding, for enforcing the prohibitory clauses of the Licensing Act. "R. Fbnnbll."
