WANGANUI HOSPITAL.
At tbe last meeting of the Hospital Committee, Mr Thatcher, eh irman of the Wanganui County, asked (says the Chronicle) for a return of the cost of hospital patients, but was satisfied with Mr Broolting's statement that all information is easily to be found in the corporation books. The worthy town ch-rk's statement was perfectly correel, 'or the books, ma kept by him, contain the fullest and clearest detail 4 v on all subjects in connection with the hospital It is, however, interesting to know what each patient cost* the hospital pe^day, and we have therefore referred to the accounts. The total expenditure on the hospital for all purpose* (including interest on an overdraft, which some time ago was due to the bank, and payments on account of convalescents boarded out), amounted to £532 14s 9d for the six months ending 31«t August, 1882. Ihe average numbei of in.door patients per month was about 21, snd they were in the hospital for 2641 days, the result being that the cost for each patient, per day, was about 4s. The hospital returns for the months of September and October give a similar result. This daily cost of 4s was amply * met by the Government subsidy, and the contributions from the Borough of Wanganui, the Counties of Rangitikei, M anawatn, and Wanganui, and tbe Boroughs of Palmerston, Feilding, and Marton. It it gratifying, also, to add that there is now no overdraft due on the hospital account.
