A special meeting of -Canterbury Chamberof Commerce was held on Friday to consider the report of the committee on the new tariff. The report 'was adopted, and ordered to be-forwarded ro the premier and -Minister for Lands. The chief recommendation relates to the appointment of a-commission of railway experts and practical men of business, to take evidence and draw up a scheme of rates ■on "an ' ordinary mercantile and lucrative basis."
