A Disgraceful Outrage.
A most disgraceful outrage • was.perpetrated by a band of larrikins on Saturday evening last. Anxious'iro doubt to'show the con tempt they hold for la wand order, and einboldentd by the snoeessfui manner in which they have evaded the police, they have moved a step hi advance, and have now turned their attention to the destruction oi property. It is only a fortnight-ago that some of these midnight ruihans covered the front of. the Guakuiax otliee with tilth. One of- the perpetrators was "spotted" by the police, but owing to-an unfortunate occurrence a fink in the chain of evidence required to ■ convict him was found to be missing and the scoundrel so far has escaped scot'free. This, however, Was ■ not such a serious matter, as a plentiful supply of Mater and a broom soon removed all traces of the disgusting mess. On Saturday evening, they adopted another method of giving vent to their larrikin propensities. -The places chosen, by them on this occasion were Air Alacartlrur's private'residence in FergussOn Street and the GcAIiiUAN otiice, both of which buildings were dubbed with green paint. 'lnform ition was given to the police, and Constable Price on Sunday morning made a start 10 investigate the matter and if possible sheet home'the crime to the cowardly perpetrators who under the cover of darkness carried on their-work of ruin. By Monday evening he obtained sufficient evidence to arrest a butcher named Eugene Leleive, a man about-28 years of age, as the perpetrator of the infamous deed. As will be- seen-from our report of the Court proceedings yesterday, the accused was brought up before Air Lethbrigo J.P. and remanded until the next sittings of the R.AI: Court iivFeild-
ittg. As the case is sub judh'e'we shall refrain from making any further continents thereon.
