GARDEN FETE. The ladies of Tuakau do nothing by halves, »and anything undertaken by them can be guaranteed a success. During the past three months they have been holding a series of socials in the old school, and by way of variation they organised a garden fete to raise funds towards purchasing a piano for the new school, and also to improve the grounds. The fete was held on Wednesday, the 22nd, in the Domain; Several hunched people weii'e present. One of tne trees in the grounds was hung with all manned of articles given to be offered for sale. This was presided ovqr by MVs E, T. ,Frost, Mrs |HMcGuire and Miss Scott, who did a brisk business til! stocks ran ouii A procession was arranged for and many and varied vve,»'e the contrivances, /from a motor car to a caff. The prize for decorated motor car fell to Mr Sumner and for bicycle toMaster M. Frostt Mrs J. Irvin took first prize for best decorated perambulator. {The grounds were set out with afternoon tea on small tables, and plenty of seating- acommodation was provided for) Mr W. J. Taylor (chairman of the Town Boavd), Rev. Nichol and Mr .Patton (secretary of the School Committee) spoke and congratulated the ladies on the success of the afternoon.
