ASSESSMENT COURT.
QUESTION OF CONSTITUTION. The Pukekohe Ratepayers’ Association recently wrote to the Prime Minister regarding the unsatisfactory form of the constitution of As- ' sessment Court, pointing out that the ordinary ratepayer has no representative on the Bench. The Government has two, the local body one but the general ratepayer who has to .foot -the bill has none. A reply ifrom Mr Massey was read at last night’s meeting of the Pukekohe Ratepayers’ Association, which read as follows ; “I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th instant, relating to the constitution of the Assessment Court and urging on behalf of the Pukekohe Ratepayers” Association that legislation should be passed to enable -the ratepayer to' appoint a representative on the Court. I have taken note of the representations submitted, and shall be glad to arrange for the matter to receive careful consideration. Yours faithfully, W. F. Massey.”
