FANCY DRESS DANCE. MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. On Friday evening last a fancy dress dance was held in the old Tua■"kaiu school to raise funds for the purchase of a piano for the neiv building. The attendance was so large that it was difficult to find room on the floor to .dance, but such an atmosphere off goodfellowship existed that the crowded conditions but created a spirit of revelry that was heightened by the festive appearance of the dance room which was gaily decorated with flags streamers ancl greenery. The .fancy dresses were varied and? very numerous, and a number were‘of exceptional merit. i Mrs Elliott, as a ’“Maori Woman,” well deserved first phize, whilst Mrs W. Gtubb. Mrs W- Graham and Miss D.' Irwin wore dresses that were unusually good. Mr Elliott as a “Swaggyi,” was excellent andi took first prize amongst the gentlemen, whilst several other splendid costumes ran him close for his place. Mr W. Graham and his willing band of helpers are (to be congratulated on the result of their unselfish, untiring efforts. fThe series of socials ,ojf which this was a special occasion. have been the means of raising almost £3O for the purchase of the piano.
