FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
■MONTHLY MEETING.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Frankiir, County Council was held on Thursday, when here were present : Crs W. Claud Motioil ("hairman), R. J. Reid, T. W. Woods, E. C. Cuff, B. Charles, J. Dean, G W. Heald, H. O. Mellsop,, J. R. l/owry, H. Wilcox, the clerk (Mr Alan P. Day), and the engineer (Mr J. id. McArthur. Conference of Engiatoms. The New Zealand. So'ciety of Civil Engineers requested the Council to grant leave to the County Engineer to attend the conference of engineeers which will be held in Wellington on 21st February, 1922 —Referred to engineer,. RflacEiinery Loan. The Public Trust Office / advised that the final instalment of the £IB,OOO Plant and Machinery Loan, amounting to £3OO. had been remitted and placed to the Council’s credit aft the bank at Pukekohe^ —Received. Road at Drury Station. The District Engineer of New Zealand Rrf'ways wrote with reference to the dedication of load on the east side - of the Drury Station, and suggested that in order to complete the dedication of the road the piece of -oad enclosed in Mr Dickson’s fence be leased to him.--It was decided 1.0 reply stating the Council had no desire to compel Mr Dickson to remove his fence. Educations! Reserve, Pam?. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote asking if the Council had any suggestions to make regarding the sale of the lease of Lot 17, Puni Parish, Education Reserve, leasehold land, formerly Zin j.-n The Commissioner v-,. nled out that the Land Board was very anxious to dispose of the lease of the property, as the Crown paid the original lessee iboOO compensation for his improvements. The area comprises 348 acres.-—The clerk was instructed 'to reply urging that the rent required be capitalised. It was obvious theft the value of improvements was too high. Cemetery Road, Tuakau. Leonard Logan, Tuakau, on behalf of himself and neighbouring ratepayers, asked: that something be done to the Cemetery Road leading to and past their properties. Portions of the road were in a bad state of repair. Left to engineer and Cr Wilcox 'to interview the ratepayers concerned. Cr Wilcox said tha it was not she Council’s fault the road was not attended Tendters had been callc-d five times for (the supply and delivery of 150 cubic yards of metal. The work will be put in hand this summer. Pukekohe Drainage District.
The Prime Minister in reply to the Council’s letter regarding the expendiure of the vcße for the Pukekohe Drainage District, skated hat owing to the financial position the item was deleted from the Consolidated Fund Estimates for the current year. He was advised by the Minister of Lands that the Public Works Department had been asked to cots'der a ssccsidy of KICK* v .th its Es .mates Received. Dealt with m engineers r« ort. Drainage Board Request. The Aka Aka Drainage Board requested the Council Uo remove all the clay along the bank of the Aka Aka western drain above '.he concrete bridge near Mr G. Conroy s. The replied that the matter was before last meeting of the Counci 1 , when the engineer reported that the mateiial taken from the drain was too wet to grade on to the road. The foreman had been instructed some time ago to carry out this work as soon as possible, and it would be po't in hand as soon as the material was dry enough to handle with the ✓ grader.—The clerk’s action was approved.
Technical School Accommodation.
Mr A. F. Brown, one of the local
body representatives on the Pukekohe High Sschool Board of Managers, wrofte in connection with the provision of additional accommodation at the Technical High School, stating that the Board of Managers finally decided ito secure the [necessary money, £2OOO, by means of finding £2OO discount, and £lO brokers’ commission, and getting the Brokers’ Association to finance the £2OOO on these terms.. 'The origiinal proposal was to have debentures taken up in the disif.icts served by the school, but the detail work in connection with this was found to be too cumbersome and ithe matter being so urgent the Board: decidep on the above s -heme, the result being that for £2lO the Board was assured of the extra accommodation. The full amount had been duly paid over by a local gentleman on the personal guarantee of members of the Board. The sum of £l6O has been collected locally, and knowing that the Council was in sympathy with the Board’s efforts he, as •he Council's representative, asked that the balance, £SO, be contributed . by the various ridings in the Counity. —lt was decided to contribute the
necessary amount.
A Waipipi Request.
Messrs J. and A. Ducken, Waipipi, urged that Sleeson’s contract, Waipipi, be completed,- He also drew the Council’s attention to the state of sand-stone cutting between Craig’s and their place.—Left to engineer and Riding member to attend to.
A Kariotahi Request.
A petition signed by Mr C. H. White and eight other ratepayers of Karjotahi drew the Council’s attention to the state of the MaS.fi West Coast Road, and urged that it be metalled—The clerk was insructed to reply and state the Council was unable to undertake the metalliing work out of rates revenue. - There was £lO9 on the Estimates, but owing to the existing financial conditions ithe amount was not now avaliable for expenditurel. It was decided to suggest to the settlers interested to raise a loan oi £509 and the Council would find the balance, either by subsidy or out of rate revenue.
