PROPOSED FRANKLIN POWER DISTRICT.
SUPPLY FROM HORA HORA.
AVAILABLE DURING NIGHT.
FOR PERIOD OF TEN HOOKS
It wi.ll be recollected that at 'the meeting of delegates from local authorities held in the Franklin County office some time ago the cleric (Mr A. P. Day) was instructed to cmmunicate 'with the Chief Electrical Engineer with reference to the supply of electricity [for the Franklin district.
| The Acting Chief Engineer replied stating the position in regard to the supply of hydro-electric power atpre-. sent was that with the present power house at Hora Hora there was available a surplus of about 2000 h.p. which was available for about 10 ; hours during the night. Tendeis had been invited for additional plant, totalling 4000 k.w,., and when this was installed, well on in 1923, there would, probably be about .1500 k.w. available for continuous sale beyond the area now being supplied from Hora Hora. Materal was being obtained and ar- | rangements made for the erection of a main transmission line from Hamilton to Auckland. This was a part of the main system from Arapuni, but it was hoped that by putting in this section of the work first it might be used to transit any surplus power here may be available at Hora Hora. The amount of power, however, being limited, it would not be economical to tap the main extra high tension line at moiie than one point until considerably more power was made available by the completion of the Arapuni works. It was considered that there was a bejtter prospect of an immediate sale for the whole of the energy at a sub-station near Auckland that at any one sub-station en rouje, but the Department would be prepared to consider any proposal which would guarantee a profitable sale for the surplus energy as soon as it could be ‘made available,. The question of in- ' stallation of a steam generating plant at Huntly was being considered in connection with the Auckland supply, but it was felt that, as the Department was already augmenting Hora Hora pending completion of the Arapuni scheme, the installation of a steam station on the Waikato was a matter for the local bodies to decide and install if they consider that their immediate needs were thal they could not await the advent of Arapuni
power. The letter was received. It was decided to forward a copy to delegates who attended' the conference of local bodes held some time ago.
