PUKEKOHE ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
INAUGURAL MEETING. An enthusiastic meeting of music lovers took place at the Carnival Tea Rooms on Friday night last, and unanimously decided to form an orchestra, to be called the “Pukekohe Orchestral Society.” Mr. E. W. Pook was voted to the chair, and spoke of the need of an orchestra in Pukekohe. He mentioned that the Society was fortunate in securing the assistance of Mr C. J>. Barker,, who is well-known in Auckland musical circles as a first-class musician. The following officers were appointed :—Conductor, Mr C. D. Barker ; deputy-conductor, Mr G, G. Littlejohn ; librarian, Mr G. Hubbard; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. V. Middlemiss. The orchestra at present consists of approximately twenty playens and it is anticipated that this number will be increased before the opening of the season n February next.
