COUNCIL.
MONDAY NIGHTS MEETING.
Present: His Worship . the Mayo (Mr J. Routly) and Crs Brownlee Rennelly, Morrow, Patterson, Me Gough, DaySh, Armstrong an< Hamilton.
Deputation Northern End Edinburgl Street.
A deputation from the northen end of Edinburgh Street waited up on the Council and presented a,ne tition, signed by twenty-four hw&es One speaker (Mr Hogan) strassei the difficulty the Convent childrei had with impassable state of th footpath. Jjrt was, said the speaker in . a really scandalous The Mayor stated he was happy t< state thafe only that afternoon hi bad examined the state of the foot path and road, and it had been de cided to thoroughly do the work practically straight away.
Fire Brigade.
Captain Brown and Secretary Rol linson, of the Pukekohe Fire Brigade also wafted upon the Council. Th< secretary asked that the Council ex tend the main to the Domain to sup ply a wet plug for practice. He als< requested that the Council keep ii view the provision of a motor reel A .further matter was the provisioi of a couple of electric .torches fo night use. The secretary also sta}fce« that on Friday afternoons the fron cf the Fire Brigade Station wa crowded with vehicles, which woul< cause difficulty if the Brigade wa called out. He urged that the vehi cle? be parked in the next street. Captain Brown staked that an ambulance stretcher should be kept or the Brigade premises. If the Council would provide a stretcher members of the Brigade would learn firsl aid and undertake to go out in case of an accident.
In reply, the Mayor started that he bad hoped that after the “smoko” some six months ago, that Captain Watts' would have go# in touch with him on the Platter, but he had not .done so.. Cr Hamilton moved that the matter of the plug in the Domain b«
left in the hands of the Waterworks Committee. ,
It was also agreed to purchase thi torches and stretcher v as desired.
Ladies’ Rest Room.
The Mayor presented a plan of the proposed Ladies’. Rest Room, which was approved of by the Council, and they have promised to submit specifications in due course. Miscellaneous. Advice was received from the De? partment of Internal Affairs that the erection of the Pukekohe War Me* morial has received the official pension. Permission was granted to a phe Franklin Plunket Society to' have a store in King Street, Pukekohe at some early date ip December, for the purpose of raising funds Society. f The State Advance Office Tiave forwarded debentures for signature in respect of the £SOOO loan for di aipage purposes. It was decided to call for applications for the joint position of the inspector of explosives and building inspector. ,
