TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday, when there were present : Messrs' Dynes Fulton (chairman), J. B. Simi. Wl. J. Taylor, Geo. S. Lapwood, C. Finch, G. Arrowsmirth, A-, Medland, and the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper)**

Engineer’s Report.

The Board’s engineer, Mr John Routly, reported that he had looked into the question of work on Gibson’s Road, and 1 found that *to make a decent a job up to the end of the second hollow about 900 yards ot earthwork were required, and if it was required fco grade to the end ox the first hollow about 425 yards With the larger quantity it would be possible to carry the mdtal 16 chains down fxjom the main road. If the first hill and hollow only are graded, the allocation would admit of carrying metal 6 chains further, but he was not certain that they should have a sufficient length of well graded road to receive the metal, He further reported that he was arranging to put in the land ties at the White Bridge, and with ordinary luck he would have the job completed by Christmas. —The engineer was instructed to call tenders for the grading work on Gibson’s Road. He was also instructed to inspect ithe culvert in the second hollow, and report to the Board as to whether it. was suitable or otherwise. It was pointed out that the pipes in the cenltre were too sma 1 to carry the volume of water at times.,

Electricity.

The Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department, in reply to the Board’s letter requesting certain information in connection with the supply of electrical energy from Hora Hora, stated: (1) “The amount of power available will be very limited for some time to come, and the allocation of same has not yet been definitely decided upon; (2) Tentative proposals for a sub-station in f* l6 Franklin County have been considered but its location has not yet been determined.” —The letter was received. Farm College, The Board, on the motion of Messrs Fulton and Medland, supported the resolution forwarded by the Auckland Education Board, urging upon the Government the advisability ot establishing a Farming College at Ruakura.—Mr Fulton said a harm College in the North Island was necessary. At the present time the Waikato was the greatest dairying district in New Zealand. - The price of land was high and to make farming a payable proposition under existing circumstances they had >:o .farm scientifically!,. Ruakura was a suitable place, as it was in the centre of the Waikato. - , Pukekohe was suggested as a suitable centre for an Agricultural College by a couple of members.

Straying Cajttle.

It was reported that a stock owner who allowed cattle to wander on the roads had been convicted and fined at the last Pukekohe Courts, —The chairman said there were others who allowed their- cattle to Stray and who had not yet been prosecuted. The constable should have been able r to ascertain the names of these,-often-- • ders. ! . Chairman’s Report. The chairman (Mr Dynes Fulton) reported 1 briefly on his recent visit to Wellington-, , He hoped the town would benefit slightly as a result ot his visit. General. The engineer was instructed to prepare estimates of cost of completing George Street, and forming and metalling Church Street. v In answer to Mr Sim, the chairman said the Railway Department would shortly be erecting lamps at the -cattle-loading yards, Harrisville Hill. The work- on this road- is to commence as soon as possible, flie engineer was instructed to call tenders for the erection of- the bridge at the foot of the hill. • It was resolved to ask Mr 13. G. Gereighty to supply sufficient pipes, the size fco be specified by the engin- , eer, for his water-race across the road, and: to have same on hand ready to be constructed when the work on the bridge was being proceeded wKh. Accounts. The pay-sheet, amounting to £42 15s 4d, general account ; and £317 13s sd, loan account, was passed for payment.
