TUAKAU “EYE-SORE.”
, f‘A DIRTY HOLE.” Reference was made at Tuesday’s meeting of the Tuakau Town Board concerning a hollow piece of land near J the ! Post Office, and at the entrance to the Town of Tuakau from the Railway Station, by Mr J. B. Sim, ,who said that the place was a perfect eye-sore, as well as being a harbour for noxi'ous weeds. He asked if anything could be done to have lit cleaned up an beautified.
The chairman said that some time ago the Railway Department offered the section, with others, for lease for a term of years. A high price was paid by a couple of men engaged in a printing business for the lease of the section The place had not been built on. The Board endeavoured to get it and beautify it. They had also been at work trying to get the lessees to do something, also the Railway Department. Nothing had been done. They could do nothing. They could not compel a man to build. It was nothing but a dirty hole. • . Members were unanimous that it W as a disgrace. However, the matter was again dropped.
