THE MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS.
DAILY STOP REQUIRED, REPRESENTATIONS TO MINISTER Representations are being made to the Minister of Railways with a view of having the Main Trunk express train stopped at Pukekohe daily. At Thursday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council, a letter was received from the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce stating that the Chamber had. moved in this direction, and solicited the suppoit of the Council in the matter. It pointed out that within a radius of ten or eleven miles of Pukekohe there were 20,000 people. The Chamber felt that it would be of great commercial benefit to Franklin and neighbouring districts if the express stopped here daily. The3 r also placed before the Minister’s notice the importance of this district as a centre as compared with other towns at which the train stopped. Cr Wilcox said the matter was of importance to the district and should be supported by the Council. He alto mentioned the irregular running of the school children’s train in the evening, ancl urged that something should be done to have the mattei looked into. The train was very often late, and children who had to travel several miles after disembaiking from the train were at a great disadvantage. It was stated that the latter matter had been placed under the notice of the District Traffic Manager. Cr Wilcox moved that the Council support the Chamber of Commerce in its endeavour to have the Main Trunk Expess train stopped at Pukekohe daily. The motion was carried.
