BEAUTIFYING.
(To the Editor).
Sir, —Replying to Mr Stembridge’s letter re the Beautifying Association, I am pleased to know that your correspondent in interested in this movement. Many public movements in the past have failed, but not all, as witness the Technical School, which is more than an unqualified success, if I may so put it, and shows what can he done when energy is tempered yi debate by toleration of the other man’s opinion ; and this Association, which has been organised on business principles, is one of those that have come to stay, and we now have three committees all, pushing on with the (work that has been allotted to them.' These committees are : The Planting Committee (Mr Mason, chairman), the Publicity Committee (Fr Wylie, (chairman), th e Social Committee (Mr Grainger, chairman). Each of these committees is composed of enthusiasts from- all sections of the community, and as the Association desires to still further strengthen these committees, we are on the look out for cither enthusiasts who would be iwlling to put their shoulder to tire wheel. Membership receipt books have now been printed, and are-being-issued to members of the General Council, who are authorised to issue receipts to incoming members. The Beautifying Association, as I have already mentioned, has come to stay, and Mr Stembridge has shown* his practical interest in the movement by becoming a member.—l am, etp.,
K. H, PATTLE. President Franklin Beautifying
Association,
