AT LAST.
GENERAL MANAGER OF (RAILWAYS. TO VISIT TUAKAU. Many months ago, the Tuakau Town Board, communicated with tthe General Manager of New Zealand Railways, asking him to visit Tuakau and meet tthe Board in connection with numerous matters, one in particular concerning the proposed overhead traffic bridge over the George Street railway crossing. The crossing referred to is admittedly decidedly dangerous and sooner or later the authorities will be compelled to construct the bridge. Pending the final decision of the Railway Department, the Board was held up from putting the work of regrading Harnsyille Itiil into operation. To do the necessary work on this hill and assuming the Railway Department decided to have an overhead bridge erected, the ramps of which would link up with the Harrisville Hill Road, when completed would, no doubt, seriously terfere with the work undertaken near the foot of the hill, besides being a waste of money, hence the attitude of the Board ’ deferring the work. The General Manager promised on two occasions to visit Tuakau, but so far he has not done so.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Mr R. W - McVilly/ manager of the. New Zealand railways, writing on June 30, stated that he would be visiting the northern district in about a fortnight’s time and would then take the opportunity of going into various matters, concerning Tuakau, with the Board.
The letter was received, members expressing satisfaction at the latest development.
