DISTRICT NEWS.
ONEWHERO. By an Order-in-Councii the following gentlemen have been gazetted as constituting the Domain Board fox Onewhero, Messrs Attewell, Keals, Muir, Mac Kenny, Reveil, ( Riley-Tajr-lor and C. Walters, Under the Public Reserves and Domains Act, these gentlemen will hold office for a term of seven years antf are then eligible for reappointment. It has been decided that delegates from the, local Tennis'Club shall wait on the Domain Board at its first meeting, which will probably be the fii st Wednesday in August Several residents have been up to Auckland to see “Chu Chin Chow” and all ; express themselves as delighted with it
Mr Cheeseman and his 1 assistants are again stocktaking at the Onewhero branch of the Farmers’ Union Trading Co. Rumour has it that on a certain day during the coining month many lines are to be made half price, if sp, we may anticipate Onewhero residents will come early and avoid the crush.
Mr W. Kane has quite recovered from his attack of pleurisy which which kept him in bed for several days lately. Mr J. Liddle is planning extensive alterations to his house and intends to get them done as soon as he has completed the alterations to the Onewhero Catholic Church, the timber for which is already on the ground. The alterations to Mr Cole Baker’s, house are well on their way to completion; July 1 sees the inauguration of the extended telephone service. Our postmaster, Mr Cole Baker, has undertaken to give us a continuous daily service from eight to eight, except on Saturdays, when the telephone office will close at 5 p<m. This will be a great improvement on the existing service, which has been far from satisfactory, The great want here is to be connected with a medical man by telephone at night and on Sundays and holidays. Under any circumstances we are badly enough placed, when one considers the nearest doctor is at Pukekohe, and when sometimes we are cut off all telephone : communication for three days on end, jit is a very serious matter. I The Tennis Club social was post- • pcned owing to the absence of Mr ! Kelsey in Auckland, who wast he winner of the trophy for the men’s ladj dor competition. Most unfortunately i some few people did not see or hear |of the postponement, consequently <bey had their trip out for nothing. It was the more to be regretted as
I some of those concerned are amongst 1 our most keen enthusiasts for any I local entertainment. .
