BABIES WITH TAILS.
People who possess tails are not altogether so uncommon as might be supposed. ; According to- a statement made re • | cently by Professor Arthur Keith, j F.R.S., more than seventy cases of . human beings with noticeable tails S are known to science. There are probably a good many moie. for people with this addition I to their anatomy are naturally some- j what shy about it, end so do not advortise the fact. 'The real truth of the matter is j that everybody has an inner tail, ana • cci' remote ancestors had an outer | one. But the possession of a tail j being a hindrance rather than a help s to walking, man lost this outward ) tail after he assumed an upright pos- J ture. i One tailed baby, mentioned by j Professor Keith, used to show its. > emotions with its tail. wagging it. j Met as a dog does, when it was ! i pleased. Another baby, similarly dowered, J used tis tail as monkeys do theirs, j curling it round the nurse’s ringer j and clinging tightly to it.
