“THOSE RACES.”

WHAT WAS IT ALL ABOUT ?

RAILWAY PASSENGERS CARRIED

A well-known Pukekohe bowling enthusiast and an ex-presiclent of the A. And P. Society who resides at Buckland, both of whom were practically born and reared in the district, had a most peculiar experience on Wednesday evening. The two gentlemen visited Ellerslie on Wednesday and witnessed the programme of lacing events. The former had a horse in the last race of. the day, and he ran a particularly true race, finishing close up to the placed horses. Both bearded the. train for the homeward journey and no doubt commenced running the last race of the day over again, perhaps stating that if the race was re-run the particular horse might win if he got a clean passage. The race train steamed along Jit full speed and arrived at Pukekohe. at about 6.35 p.m. One was booked to disembark at Pukekohe and the other at Bucklancl. The train proceeded on Lei journey and pulled up at Pokeno. Thinking that Pokeno was his destination the Pukekohe man alighted, bidding his pal good-night. The Buck I anu man thought the next ' stop was Dockland, hut instead he found himself at. Mercer. What a surprise when they found themselves in Pokeno and Mercer respectively. No doubt it was the railway porters' fault for not announcing the names of the stations, at least we will say s.o, but in future when the pair go to the races again they should take more water with it. It cost the local man a couple of pounds to get home, and when he made known his experiences the boys of the -town gave him a great barracking in a small way. He is not likely to forget his experiences for some time, at least.
