MANUREWA.
In connection with the King’s Birthday,, a very successful gathering ox school children, parents and friends was held in the Public Hall. Mr C. H. Lupton presided and gave a short talk on “Our King and Flag.” The Revs. G. B Hinton and P. Smallfield gave interesting and appropriate addresses to the children on “Patriotism” and “What We Owe to the Past,” respectively. The children sang “0 God, Our Help in Ages Past,” “The New Zealand Hymn.” “The Recessional/’ and “Rule Britannia.” The chairman made an appeal to the parents and friends to assist the teachers and School Committee in making the grounds a credit to the school and district, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Revs. Hinton and Smallfield for their addresses, to the teachers for the very creditable manner in which the children had been trained, and to Mr and Mrs P. Nield for a gift of a kettle drum to the school. This was carried by acclamation. The Notional Anthem brought a very successful meeting to a close. The School Committee desire to thank Mr J. Evans, of Weymouth, for his kindness in bringing the Weymouth school chilchildren to the meeting free.
