JERSEY BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the North Auckland branch of the N.Z. Jersey Breeders 1 Association was held in the office of the Franklin A. and P.Association, Manukau road, Pukekohe. on Saturday, April 23, at 1.15 p.m. Mr- R. F. Wilkinson was in the chair. Before commencing the business, the chairman moved a vote of condolence with Messrs T. D. Reid, of Waiuku, and W. T. Woods, Pukekohe, in their recent sad bereavements. A letter was received from the Franklin A. and P. Society - stating that the conditions under which cows were judged in the semi-official classes should be modified. This caused a lot of discussion. Mr Wilkinson considered that in this class at the show a cow’s production should be taken into consideration and a scale of points allotted for it. Then she should be judged on points as to her type, both lots ‘of points should then be added together and the award allotted accordingly. As at present constituted the semi-oflHeial classes in the show ring were simply a duplicate of the old cow classes. Mr J. R. Fulton endorsed Mr Wilkinson’s remarks. Mr C. R. Spragg said: “I cannot agree with Mr Wilkinson. A cow in the semi-official classes had already her production award made. Perhaps the figures should be published in the catalogue, but the show ring was out to preserve type and a cow in the show ring should be judged on type and type alone.” After further discussion, it was finally proposed by Mr J. Fulton and seconded by Mr Len Barriball, that a recommendation be sent to the Jersey Breeders’ council, Palmerston North, suggesting that points be allowed for cows in semi-official classes in the show ring on the base of record. This was carried, Mr Spragg alone dissenting. It was resolved to hold a Jersey judging competition in Waiuku some time in the spring, the final arrangements were left in the hands of Mr Len. Barriball, the president and the secreteary. Mr Wilkinson considered that there should be demonstrations given to school children. This was favourably considered by all present and the secretary was instructed to bring the matter before the council in time for their annual meeting.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr McLennan for his services on the council and the hope was expressed that he would be again elected.

A number of accounts were passed for payment.

It was resolved to invite members of the recently formed branch in Auckland to meet members of this branch at Pukekohe and to discuss matters of interest and policy. The arrangements of bringing about this meeting were left in the hands of Mr McLennan. This concluded the business.
