MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
THE MAYORALTY. MR. JOHN ROUTLY WINS. SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY. SIX OF RETIRING COUNCIL RE-ELECTED. Considerable interest was taken in the municipal elections locally on Wednesday last and right up to the announcement of the results the winners were well concealed. The election for the Mayoralty x-e----sulted in the return. of Mr John Routly, who defeated the retiring Mayor, Mr C. K. Lowrie, and an exMayor in Mr H. G. R. Mason, who was defeated at the 1919 election by Mr Lawrie. Six of the retiring Councillors were returned, Crs Robert Bilkey and Jas. H. Keith, who were defeated, were replaced by Messrs Thos. Brownlee and Jas Kennedy. The voting was as follows:- — The Mayoralty. John Routly .. ..318 Chas. Kaspar Lawrie .. 242 Henry G. Rex Mason ~ 231 Thirteen informal votes were cast. The Conned. D. R. Johns . . . . 295 G. J. Ward . . . . 281 R. Bilkey .. . . 253 NT. H. Keith .. ..216 R. Higginson .. .. 238 R. G. V. Fear . . . . 225 W. S. Russell . . . . 203 V. S. Roberts . . . . 200 The new Council will consist of the following: Crs D. R. Hamilton. T. Brownlee, J. Kennedy. A. P. Daysh. F. .J. Morrow. R. H. McGough;. 1. Patterson and G. H. Armstvdng. When the results of the Mayoral contest were announced each candidate returned thanks and were giver hearty cheers.
