TUAKAU.
WELCOMED TO BOARD. Before the ordinary business was commenced at Tuesday's meeting of the Tuakau Town Board, the chairman (Mr Dynes Fulton), on behalf of the Board welcomed Mr A. Medland, who was elected in place of Mr Jas. Pirret, who resigned, to the Board’s table. He congratulated. Mr Medland upon his election, and hoped that the confidence placed in him by the ratepayers would not be misplaced. He regretted that a bye-election was necessary, as Mr Pirret, who had been a member of the Board for about tnn years, was a very highly-esteem-ed member. He was certain Mr Medland would uphold the confidence placed in him, and would work amicably with other members of the Board for the welfare of those who elected them to the position they held. In reply, Mr Medland thanked the chairman for the kindly sentiments voiced and added that he would, to the best of his ability, uphold the interestsof the ratepayers as a whole. PERSONAL. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Tuakau Town Board, the chairman moved that the Board place on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr James Pirret. He pointed out that Mr Pirret bad done excellent work for the town and ratepayers be had represented. He was a leading light in matters pertaining to the welfare of the district, especially social events. The motion, which was carried unanimously, was seconded by the newlyelected member (Mr A. Medland). Mr Garnet Arrowsmith was appointed deputy-chairman of the Tuakau Town Board at last meeting, vice Mr -Jas. Pirret, resigned, on the motion of Messrs Lapwood and Finch.
COMMEMORATION OF ANZAC DAY.
MEMORIAL MEDALS. Anzac Day, which falls on April 25th next, has been proclaimed a public holiday throughout the Dominion by the Government. All are aware that the day is set apart as one for the commemoration of the noble deeds of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
The matter was brought up at the meeting of the Tuakau Town Board on Tuesday night bv the chairman (Mr Dynes Fulton). He statd that members of the Women’s Patriotic League had decided to present the next-of-kin of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, with memorial medals. In al 1 32 men from Tuakau had given their lives. The committee had acquired the medals, and these would be distributed on the day. It was proposed to hold united services, when the ministers of the respective churches would be invited to take part. Now that the war was over they, as citizens should not forget the gloriousdeeds of the men on the field of battle. Ho moved that the clerk write and ask the various clergymen to make arrangements for the combined service.—-Carried.
The arrangements as far as the Town Board is concerned' was left in the hands of the chairman and .clerk. Members of the Board are to attend as representatives of the electors.
