PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WEDNESDAY’S MEETING. The Pukekohe Borough Council met on Wednesday last when there were present: The Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie), Crs D, R. Hamilton, A. P. Days R. H. McGough, J. H. Keith, 1- ■ Morrow, J. Patterson, the derK (Mr j F. Deane), the foreman (Mi b. Clews), and. the electrical engineer (Mr W. Wyatt). Webbs’ Road. Mr C. H. Beatson requested that Webb's road be metalled as soon as material was available.— It was pom - ed out that work on a number of roads had been authorised and as soon as they were completed the W ork on Webb’s road would be put m Drainage Loan £IO,OOO. With reference to the drainage loan of £IO,OOO. the superintendent of the State Advances Office stated that when the Council was in a position to advise him that the ratepayers had sanctioned the raising of the money for a term of 36% years, the application would be placed before the State Advances Board for consideration. At the present time he dirt pot know what funds the department would Stave .available for Investment during the coming year and consequently he was unable to say definitely whether or not the application would receive favourable consideration —Received.
Tender. Only one tender was received for the formation of Franklin road, but p was considered far too high it was declined.. It was decided to make application to the Public Works Department for permission to (it the work by day labour. Lights Wanted. Mr N. L. Higginson, Manukau road, urged that electric lights in Manukau road be lit every night. He pointed out that cue in particular, past the salevards. was often out, and as the footpath was covered with blackberries people had to use the load, which was dangerous in view of the fact of the number of horsemen galloping along the road and persons riding bicycles without lights The electrical engineer said that they could not see their way clear at present to install more lights, as they were loaded at the power house to the full capacity. It was decided to compel property owners to clear the front of theii properties of blackberry to enable pedestrians to use the path.
Footpaths. Cr. Patterson urged that the various footpaths in the borough be attended to. Among those he wanted, repairing was East Street, while he advocated that West Street path bej tarred and sanded on both sides as j far as the kerbing was completed On his motion the work is to done. Other streets that are to receive! attention are Seddon, Albert andj Queen. The Works Committee was instructed to see the work was carried out. Supply of Scoria. The Mayor reported that he had arranged with the district traffic manager of New Zealand railways to forward four trucks of scoria daily. He stated that the scoria was coming forward and would continue to do so until the order was countermanded West Road. The foreman was authorised to take steps to repair West road which was ir- a bad condition through pot holes. Adams’ Bridge. Has the chairman of the Works Committee inspected Adams’ bridge on the Pukekohe-Paerata road to see if it is safe for traffic? asked Cr Patters.-: Cr No. I did not know it v/as unsafe. Cr Keith: What is wrong with it? In my opinion it is absolutely of'. Cr Patterson: What was wrong with the Henderson bridge when it collapsed. The matter was referred to the Works Scnimittee to look into.
