MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

Not a great deal of interest is being taken in the forthcoming municipal elections, which take place on April 27. Up to the present time three candidates have been mentioned for the position of Mayor, but as far as the Council itself is concerned, probable candidates are somewhat backward in coming forward. Of the present Council, consisting of Crs G. H. Armstrong, A. P. Daysh, D. R. Hamilton J. Patterson, R. Bilkey, F. J. Morrow, R. H. McGough and J. H. Keith, only one, Mr A. P. Daysh, has signified his intention of seeking reelection. Most of the others were seen by a representative of the “ Times ” and in’ answer to a question by’ the reporter, replied that they had not yet definitely decided.

The Chamber of Commerce has nominated Messrs V. S. Roberts, R. G. V. Fear and J. G. Ward, and these gentlemen intimate in this issue, that they will contest the election f while Mr W. S. Russell has acceded to a reauest to be nominated. Mr Robert Hastings is a probable candidate. The candidates for the Mayoralty up to the present time are:—Hessrs J. K. Lawrie (retiring Mayor), H. G. R. Mason (ex-Mayor) and J. Routly. There was a rumour current that Mi Mason would withdray, but so far the rumour is without foundation.
