FRANKLIN RACING CLUB.

INAUGURAL MEETING. SATURDAY NEXT. Present indications point to the inaugural race meeting, under the auspices of the Franklin Racing Club, which takes place at Pukekolie on Saturday next, being an unqualified success from every point of view. The club, which is in its babyhood, has a membership of 1000, which speaks volumes for the district, and a membership which is increasing rapidly day by day. Immediately upon the formation of the club, steps were taken to acquire a property, and a. sub-committee made investigations, with the result that Mr D. K. Hamilton’s property of 96 acres, situated on the Manukau Road, was acquired. Since then the club has spent large sums of money in constructing a racing track and putting the ground into order for • Saturday’s event. The property is admirably situated for the purpose for which it was acquired. It is close to the Main Trunk railway line, a necessary feature nowadays towards the success of a race meeting. The grounds are picturesque, being bordered on the eastern and western sides by slopes which will serve as natural grandstands for the large crowds expected on Saturday. In the centre of the course there are several little hillocks from which the races can be viewed with the utmost pleasure. A number of trees are situated on the property and these will, no doubt, be taken advantage of if the weather is of the summery nature, by picnic parties who are catered for on the day. Hot water will be provided free on the grounds During the last few weeks members of the executive have worked assiduously to put the grounds in order and we are in a position to state that almost everything is in readiness for Saturday’s fixture. Every man, woman and child in Fianklin should make a point of attending next Saturday’s racing and thus make the inaugural ra«« ing the greatest success of -the year.
