TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
IMPORTANT TO FARMERS. (Contributed.) A special class for farmers was included in the programme of work to be carried out this year in the evening technical classes. For convenience sake the class is-called agriculture. Syllabus. There will be lectures on the theories that govern' the application of fertilisers to the soil, the practical analysis of those fertilisers in the chemical laboratory, the explanation of the terms tri-calcic phosphate, water-soluble, nitrogenous content, dipolassic oxide, ,and others of a similar nature. So many lectures will be devoted to* the study of the physical proper-ties of the soil, improvement of soil texture and so on. Another aspect of the work to be followyed out is shown in the 'lectures to be delivered on milk, its composition, chemical properties, its constituents, their analysis and measurement; butter, cheese, whey, acidity, etc. Practical Application. All this is highly interesting and instructive to the farmer who is farming on modern lines. Farmers must be men of scientific training or bent of mind before they can be successful. Attendance. This is a class for all, young or cld. You may pay or you, may attend by virtue of your free place certificate, provided you put in the requisite number of hours’ work in other subjects. Day and Hour of Meeting. So that this class will not clash with the two drill nights it is to be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 9, starting on the 22nd inst., in tthe Technical High School. Instructor. Mr. K. T. Whitehouse, M.Sc., who has had very considerable and varied experience with the Department of Agriculture, and who is now on the relieving staff of the Technical High School, will carry out the course of instruction.
