PLUNKET SOCIETY.
BRANCH FORMED IN PUKEKOHE. Last evening a few enthusiastic ladies met in the County Council Chambers to discuss the formation of a branch of the Plunket Society in Pukelrche. Mrs. Ward occupied the chair and briefly outlined what the Plunket system of baby rearing stood for. Shp stressed the advantages it gave to the mother as well as to the child and pointed out that the work was cf national importance as its object was to conserve child life and rear Asturdy and healthy nation. the conclusion of her remarks, it was formally resolved to form a branch, of the Society in Pukekohe, to be known as the Franklin branch of the Plunket Society.
Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mrs. A. P. Day, secietaiy, Mrs. C. Cooper, treasurer, Mrs. Waters. A committee with power- to add was formed consisting of all the
ladies present. A telegram from the Hon. W. F. Massey was read stating that if a branch were formed here the Government wouid contribute £125 per an•num towards the cost of a nurse. The membership fee was fixed at 5s per annum for ladies and 10s per annum, for gentlemen.
It was decided to try and have a Plunket tent on the show grounds for Feople’s Day at the Franklin show, and endeavour to arrange for collectors to collect funds.
There is every reason to believe that the newly-formed society will become a most successful institution and it is hoped that the co-operation of the whole district will be forthcoming.
