RE CHAUTAUQUA ASSOCIATION.
To the Editor. Sir, —I was very much surprised to . learn from Mr F. Perkins that the j Pukekohe Borough Council charged | a license fee of £5 for the meetings !of the above Association. I am not a ratepayer of the Borougn,. but the j large majority of the thirty guaran- ’ tors who brought the Association to the Borough are, and it appears to me a somewhat peculiar position to levy a tax on a New Zealand Educative Association’s meetings brought to the Borough by enterprising ratepayers for the good of the community at considerable cost to themselves.. Possibly some mistake has been made, and the Council may offer some explanation of their action. — I am, etc., E. ALLAN.
