CLEVEDON A. AND P. SHOW.
AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. RECORD ATTENDANCE. The twelfth annual show, held under the auspices of the Clevedon A. .and P. Association, took place on the association’s picturesque grounds on Saturday last in ideal weather. There was a record attendance, visitors being present from all parts of the province. The gate takings amounted to £B4, which constituted a record. The entries received were also a record, a total of 583 having tome forward, as against 544 last year, v.hieh number was claimed to be the largest ever received for the show. The stock was in fairly good condition and in most cases competition was very keen. The gentlemen’s jumping competitions were very .mediocre, a number of falls taking place, fortunately nothing of a serious nature happening. The Indies’ jumping event was a great improvement, comparing it with the men, and revealed the fact that the members of the fair sex can handle a horse to better advantage than a male, especially in jumping events at A. and P. shows. The certificate for the champion hunter was awarded to Mr. T. Paton’s Lady Norah, who holds the Champion Hunters’ Challenge Cup for 12; months. Last year the cup was won by Mr. Roy M. Furness, whose mare Dolly acted as runner-up on Saturday. Mr. E. P. Paul’s Hilarity won the champion hack class and the same owner’s Jimmy the champion horse event, event. The show was a brilliant success throughout, and reflected great credit on the officials who had elaborate arrangements complete. A word of praise is due to the energetic secretary, Mr. D. M. Bryan, and the president, Mr. C. A. Fawcett, who attended to the requirements of visitors. THE AWARDS. The prize list is as follows: — Competitions.
