PAPAKURA REQUEST.

APPLICATION REFUSED. NO WATER PIPES ALONG HUNUA ROAD. A deputation consisting of Mr. D. W. Jones, a member of the Papakura Town Board, and the Town Board’s engineer, waited on the Franklin County Council at its last meeting, regarding permission to open up the Hunua Gorge Road, two feet from the water table, for the purpose of laying pipes, from the headworks of the Papakura town water supply area to the town for the proposed water

supply. ' . Mr. Jones said that it was in the interests of the district that the Council should accede to the request. The Town Board would underake to leave the road in good order. The chairman (Mr. W. Claud Motion) said the Council was always willing to assist others in any matters. He pointed out that the Council had spent years and a large amount of money in getting the Hunua Road in its present good condition. The matter was considered after the deputation withdrew and the clerk was instructed to reply stating the Council could not accede to the request, and that the Council adheres to its previous resolution that the pipes be laid on the other side of the gully. Councillors maintained that to give the Board permission would only mean destroying a road which had taken years and a large amount of 'money to construct. It had to conserve* the interests of the ratepayers.
